January 6, 2009 Jacksonville Alumni Chapter
Greetings Fellow Alumni,
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tameiko Allen Grant and I am the newly elected President of the Jacksonville Chapter of the Savannah State University Alumni Association. It is my great pleasure to serve in this capacity during the upcoming year and I look forward to accomplishing great things, however this cannot be done without the labor and effort of strong chapter members.
Since I joined the Jacksonville Chapter in 2002 I have had so many great experiences. From the coordination of successful fundraisers such as “Casino Night” at the Omni Hotel, the “Saturday Morning Fish Fry,” and hosting the first May Conference to be held outside of Savannah, to the camaraderie of the annual Christmas party, the Alumni Chapter is more to me than an organization of colleagues, it is a group of people that I call my family. As with any family there are growing pains and the best way to work through those growing pains is with a plan of action and attainable goals.
One of the goals that I know the Chapter would like to achieve is an increase in membership. It is often said that in numbers we are stronger. I believe that a surge in our membership will help escalate our notoriety among other alumni chapters in our association and provide us with the ability to enhance and strengthen the dynamics of our group in terms of ideas, energy and creativity.
Additionally, another goal that the Chapter would like to accomplish is more involvement with campus activities to ensure the Jacksonville Chapter has part in ensuring that the accomplishments and developments of the University continue and that Savannah State University remains one of the most preeminent historically black colleges in the state of Georgia and beyond.
I know that incoming presidents’ often have lofty goals but I know that together with hard work, commitment and staunch dedication, we can attain anything that we set out to do. I ask for your help in reaching these goals and making the Jacksonville Chapter stronger than ever.
Chapter meetings are held every third Thursday of each month at the Law Offices of Willie Walker located at 625 Union Street Jacksonville, Fl. If you have questions email us at email@example.com or view our website at http://ssujaxchapter.com.
Happy New Year and God Bless,
Tameiko Allen Grant ‘99
