National Chapter Birthday donation note from National President
Roy L. Jackson

I am asking every alumnus to donate a birthday gift in the amount of $65
to the National Alumni Association. I'm sure that each Alumni Leader is
inspired by the vision of Alumni President Dr. Frankie Golden Ellis, who in 1947 began investigating the possibility of an organized national body. From
his vision and investigation, the Alumni Clubs have emerged into a premier
National Alumni Association as it is today.

The 65th birthday celebration kicked off  at the Southern Region Conference
in Atlanta, Ga. on March 7-8 and many of the alumni in attendance gave gifts.
THE CELEBRATION CONTINUES!!! You are cordially invited to the 65th birthday party, so please be a part of the celebration and send your gift which
will assist our association with its efforts to continue to rise to the financial
requests of the university and its students.
A "Birthday Bash" will be hosted
during Homecoming Weekend.  Please make checks payable to the SSUNAA
and see additional details attached.

NOTE
:  From chapter member Bubba Mattox -

On April 4th, I spreaded my wife, Phylllis Oliver Mattox of 11 years (38 years old),
ashes over the Atlantic Ocean (American Beach) after an outstanding life
celebration. She fought a 7 year battle with breast & lung cancer. I want to thank
each of you for your extension of love through text, Facebook, emails, phone
calls, face-to-face conversations, tokens of kindness and hugs. My heart is filled
with joy and I pray to be an encouragement for anyone who may one day face a
lost of their spouse.

Glory be to Almighty God now and forever, Amen!  Sincerely, Bubba Mattox

If you missed her Life Celebration, I have two moving videos on Youtube in
her honor.  Here is the link.

foundation. This foundation was established by alumni to provide assistance
to business majors who excel both inside and outside the classroom through
a general scholarship. The ultimate purpose of this scholarship is to provide
security and ensure that no hardworking student has to worry about paying
for school. This foundation and scholarship relies on donations from those
involved in the universities past and present so all donations are greatly
appreciated.  Students in the college of business are working on real life
projects such as this one that get students out into the community to hone
our skills. Projects such as this also ensure that we appreciate the amazing opportunities we have at the university by the sea. My group for this project is
looking to raise between 250 & 500 dollars. All donations are more than welcome whether they be from the association as a whole or individuals. April 10th deadline.

18 OCT 2012  (Chapter Monthly Minutes)

Greetings Tigers,

We will not meet this month. We will resume our meeting time next month. Just a few housekeeping items in lieu of our meeting:

1. If you have any additional raffle tickets for homecoming, please give me call or email. I leave for Savannah on Friday and I can turn in your tickets. If you have unsold tickets, those must be returned as well.

2. I was contacted by the Bethune Cookman Chapter and they are interested in tailgaiting with us during the SSU v. BCC game. For those that would be interested in participating, this game will be held in Savannah on November 10, 2012.

This is also Open Campus Day. Our Chapter will be taking 15 Jacksonville Students to Savannah State on that day as well. Special thanks to Atty. Walker for his coordination of that event! Participation level will determine whether we will be able to coordinate with the BCU Chapter to Tailgate.

3. Basketball Season Tickets are now onsale!! The National Alumni Association is encouraging all chapters to particpate by purchasing a season ticket package.

4. Everbank Stadium fundraiser: Thank you Dr. Maxwell for providing details regarding the opportunity to work the concessions at the Jaguar Games. Dr. Maxwell has coordinated with one of his organizations and if there is an opportunity for us to volunteer with their organization on any given Sunday they will provide us with advance notice. If we are able to participate then we will receive a portion of the profits made during that day.

For those of you who will be traveling to Savannah this weekend, please be safe and enjoy yourselves!

In Tiger Spirit,

T. Allen Grant

January 2011 SSUNAA Chapter Meeting

January 19, 2011

Meeting began at 7:08

Members Present

Tameiko Allen Grant

Huriyah Gordon

Phyllis Mattox (via conference call)

Bubba Mattox (via conference call)

George Maxwell (via conference call)

Financial Report: Ms. Gordon gave an update on the financial report and stated the chapter balance which is available at any time from the chapter treasure.

Dues: Dues both chapter and local dues can be paid at any time. Local are $30.00 and national $20.00

Old Business

Million Dollar Campaign: Ms. Grant stressed the importance of everyone’s contribution to the Million Dollar Campaign which is an initiative by the SSUNAA to raise 1,000,000 dollars which will be earmarked for various initiatives to support SSU. They include but are not limited to the Legal Defense fund, Athletics, Band, Scholarship, etc.

Dr. Maxwell thanked the chapter for our purchase of a souvenir ad in the Bobby Dilworth tribute.

Christmas Party 2010: We did not have our usual annual Christmas party in December 2010 due to lack of participation. Dr. Maxwell has tentatively agreed to host the 2011 Christmas party. We need to choose a date in December to ensure that we have plans in place.

Vice Presidency Vacancy: The chapter office of VP is vacant at this time and Ms.  Grant asked for any interested parties to please contact her. She also stated that having a VP is essential to running an effective chapter and would appreciate any help that members are willing to offer in order to make our chapter successful.

New Business

50/50 raffle: Dr.  Maxwell suggested doing another 50/50 raffle to continue to raise money for the organization. T. Grant suggested that we do the raffle quarterly to give us an opportunity to have a larger amount of winnings. We would do this quarterly and select the winner at the monthly meeting.

Membership: In order to continue to have funds for our operating budget it is necessary that we have members that pay dues regularly. Each person has stated that they will try to bring at least one new member to increase our ranks. T. Grant stated that she would request a list from the University of area alumni.

Million Dollar Campaign: T. Grant reported about the payment plan to get as many people as we can to contribute $18.90 to the million dollar campaign. T. Grant encouraged members to get friends and family involved. Members asked whether we could ensure that funds could be attributed to a particular chapter.  At this time the functionality of that feature is unknown for the SSUNAA website. Funds can be donated at any time on the www.ssunnaa.org website.

Community Service: T. Grant stated that she would like for our chapter to get more involved in the community to increase the visibility of the organization.  H. Gordon suggested that we do something with DCF in terms of sponsoring a family or a disabled elderly person to provide a meal. She stated that she would bring more information concerning this project at our next meeting.

Miscellaneous:  We congratulated all those with birthdays in January and February. Of note at this time are Willie Walker (January), George Maxwell (February).  P. Mattox stated that she would look for the information from last year so that we can continue to celebrate birthdays monthly.
